Moe
Sharifi has owned tHawthorne Street Cafe for three years and
has enjoyed every moment of it. He creates all the dishes from
scratch, using his own recipes.
The restaurant itself was one of the lovely old Portland homes
with a roomy interior and sunny porches. The oak floors are
old and pretty, the interior a variety of soft colors with painted
trim. There are four small diningrooms which are fairly roomy
and comfortable and all have large windows with views onto Hawthorne
Boulevard.
You'll enjoy friendly service and your meals arrive promptly.
If you are really lucky Moe himself will take your order and
make sure everything is going well. This is while he takes care
of the cooking and greeting new arrivals too.
Hawthorne Cafe is a very popular breakfast destination
on weekends especially, you may have to wait a bit, but it is
worth it. Try a mango wrap whose presentation is so beautiful you almost
hate to cut into it. Or a gourmet omelette. Coffees are top notch,
lots of beverage choices incluidng champagne and mimosas. The portions
are generous, the prices are moderate and everything is worth a try.
Hawthorne Boulevard is a window
shoppers dream. There are shops of every description, garden
shops, bookstores, espresso stands, antiques and collectibles,
and the historic Bagdad Theater is just down the street.
Open for breakfast lunch and
dinner. Lunches are a standard fare of soups, salads, burgers
and sandwiches. Mediterranean style dinners, sides of hummus,
pita, rice and tabouli. Ribsteaks and bloody Marys are highlights.
